A silky, café-quality matcha latte is easier to make at home than you might think—all you need is good matcha, the right technique, and a little practice.
Step 1: Choose quality matcha.
Look for ceremonial-grade matcha with a bright, almost neon green color. Dull, yellowish powder usually means lower quality and a more bitter taste.
Step 2: Sift your matcha.
This removes clumps and ensures a smoother, foamier latte.
Step 3: Whisk properly.
Add a small amount of warm water (not boiling!), then whisk firmly in a zigzag or “W” motion. The goal is fine bubbles and a frothy top.
Step 4: Add your milk.
Both dairy and non-dairy milks work well—oat milk brings sweetness, while almond milk keeps things light. Warm or froth your milk, then pour it over your whisked matcha.
Bonus: Add a drizzle of honey, maple syrup, or vanilla for a café-style flavor.
Once you nail your technique, you’ll be making lattes that outshine your local coffee shop.
